Mainspring signs a 1.6GW linear generator agreement with AEP
Contract | Completed | Mainspring Energy press release (PR Newswire) 2026/10/13
The ceiling is up to 1.6GW through 2034, of which only the first 190MW or about 12% is firm, first deliveries land in 2027, and no contract value was disclosed.

Deal Value This Issue

Only two items count: Pluto Security's $42.5M and Disney's $20M purchase of Character.AI assets, for $62.5M in total. The $6.3B Osaka figure is a construction-cost estimate that neither party would confirm, so it is excluded, a gap of about 100 times. The AEP and D-Wave contracts disclosed no value, so neither side can carry them.

Today's Wrap

Layer 6 Power's 1.6GW is a purchase ceiling rather than an order: only the first 190MW is firm, about 12% of the cap, with deliveries starting in 2027 and the agreement running to 2034. The $62.5M of countable deal value this period all sits in Layer 1 Models & Apps, one early-stage round plus one bankruptcy asset purchase. The other $6.3B is a construction-cost estimate for the 500MW Osaka campus that neither party would comment on, so it sits on the excluded side. The larger the figure the lower the certainty, and that is unusually clear this issue.

How to use this next time: when a power story leads with gigawatts, look for the number that says how much was actually bought. A ceiling, a letter of intent, an option and a firm order are four different things, and this issue's 1.6GW against 190MW is the cleanest example of that gap.
