‘Kidnap victim’, alleged abductor nabbed
Bukit Aman CID chief M Kumar said police received a report from a 43-year-old woman in Sarawak claiming that her daughter had been abducted, with the kidnapper demanding a ransom of RM18,000.
PETALING JAYA: A woman who was supposedly kidnapped and her alleged abductor were arrested in Johor Bahru this evening after investigators sensed something amiss with the victim’s account of the incident.
Police will seek a remand order for the woman, in her 20s, and the alleged abductor, aged 27, tomorrow.
“We are still investigating the motive of the incident,” Bukit Aman criminal investigation department chief M Kumar said in a statement.
Kumar said police received a report yesterday from a 43-year-old woman in Sarawak claiming that her daughter had been abducted, with the kidnapper demanding RM18,000 in ransom.
He said the “victim” was subsequently rescued by a task force comprising officers from Bukit Aman, Johor and Sarawak at about 3.30pm from a house at Taman Perniagaan Setia, Johor Bahru.
Police also arrested the suspect, who had a record for three criminal offences, including two related to drugs, and seized four mobile phones.
“A preliminary investigation raised doubts about the victim’s account of the alleged kidnapping, leading to her arrest to facilitate the probe,” he said.
