On June 27, a wallet address starting with “0xD04,” linked to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin, moved 7,000 ETH to a new wallet. At current prices, that transfer is worth around $11.06 million.
The move was flagged by blockchain monitoring service Onchain Lens. The wallet had been dormant for roughly a year before this transaction.

Analysts tracking the address say the funds are likely intended for deposit onto a centralized exchange, based on the wallet’s previous behavior.
This is not the first time the address has made a large move. Earlier, the same wallet transferred 1,300 ETH, worth about $3.19 million. Those funds were later deposited into Paxos, a regulated digital asset platform.
The pattern of behavior from this wallet has led on-chain analysts to conclude that exchange deposits are the likely next step for the newly transferred ETH.
Onchain Lens monitors known and high-profile wallet addresses for transaction activity. It flagged the transfer shortly after it was recorded on the Ethereum blockchain.
The recipient wallet had not moved the funds further at the time of reporting. Traders and analysts are watching closely for any follow-up transactions.
After the transfer, the 0xD04 address still holds 20,001 ETH, valued at approximately $31.6 million. That means a large portion of the wallet’s holdings remains in place.
Ethereum was trading at around $1,583 at the time of the transfer, up about 2% on the day.
Large transfers from well-known wallets are common topics of discussion in crypto markets. Traders often watch for movement from influential addresses as a potential signal of selling activity.
However, a transfer to a new wallet does not confirm a sale. Funds may be moved for custody, security, or organizational reasons without any intent to sell.
Vitalik Buterin has previously spoken publicly about his ETH holdings and has made transactions for charitable donations and other purposes over the years.
The transparency of the Ethereum blockchain means any movement from addresses tied to high-profile figures is immediately visible to the public.
On-chain data services like Onchain Lens have made it easier for anyone to track wallet activity in real time.
The 0xD04 address transfer is the latest example of how blockchain data gives market participants early visibility into large holder behavior.
No statement has been made by Vitalik Buterin or his representatives regarding the purpose of this transfer.
The funds in the new recipient wallet had not moved to any exchange at the time this article was published.
