AI. Executive Masterclass on AI and Governance

Best for senior leaders, professionals, and organizations across all industries

People, Person, ArchitectureWORKSHOP. Gemma Mendoza, Rappler’s Head of Digital Services and Lead Researcher on Disinformation and Platforms, leads the Creating a people-first AI Policy Tech Xperience Workshop, at the Social Good Summit on November 16, 2025.

“That Rappler workshop scared me to death about AI. Rappler taught me how to use AI, but they also made me realize how easily it can be abused,” remarked veteran economist Winnie Monsod after attending one of Rappler’s AI Masterclasses at the Rappler HQ. That tension, between risk and opportunity, is precisely where Rappler’s AI Masterclasses are anchored.

The AI Executive Masterclass, “Work Better, Think Smarter in the Age of AI,” is a high-level workshop designed to turn AI overwhelm into operational clarity.

Participants engage in a dynamic curriculum designed to help leaders from varying industries learn the fundamentals of generative AI, gain hands-on experience with AI tools, and explore ways to keep learning and working in a human-centered way.

This fee-based program offers individual slots for fixed cohorts or customized institutional training for organizations. In tailored sessions, teams can go a step further with “Crafting and Implementing AI Policies that Work,” a module dedicated to defining “red lines,” assigning governance roles, and embedding ethical checks directly into organizational workflows.

Organizations who have attended our programs come from a wide range of industries and sectors. These include academic institutions such as Far Eastern University, PHINMA Education, Metro Dumaguete College, and Wesleyan University Philippines; business groups and non-profit organizations such as Negros Occidental Chamber of Commerce and Industry, AboitizPower, and Bonifacio Art Foundation Inc., as well as other civil society groups.

AI POLICY LAB. Staff from the Consuelo Foundation join RappLearn’s team-based workshop on March 7, 2026, at the Rappler newsroom to gain foundational knowledge and hands-on guidance in using generative AI, participating in a collaborative session to draft values-based policies that ensure AI use remains ethical, responsible, and human-centered.
Immersive Newsroom learning experiences

Best for high school, college students, and educators

The Newsroom learning experience (which can be designed as a tour, visit, or immersion) is a one-day experiential program that brings students and educators into the Rappler newsroom to experience the realities of professional journalism.

Participants move beyond textbooks to observe news gathering and distribution in a high-risk digital environment. The curriculum is flexible, with modules and workshop topics tailored to the visiting group’s objectives, covering everything and anything about journalism, media ethics, fact-checking, community engagement, among others.

People, Person, ArchitectureNEWSROOM IMMERSION. Over 100 senior high school students from San Beda College Alabang take over the Rappler newsroom for an immersion, where they learn what it truly means to report stories, verify information, and stand for truth. At a time when algorithms blur the line between content and credible journalism, conversations like these matter more than ever.

A central focus of the session is helping participants appreciate the fundamental difference between professional journalism and content creation. By exploring the ethical standards of accuracy and accountability, the program clarifies the distinction between being a “journalist” and being an “influencer.”

This fee-based newsroom learning experience also offers a facilitated workshop where learners produce their own multimedia content, applying newsroom principles to navigate today’s information landscape with integrity.

Schools that have participated include San Beda College Alabang Integrated K-12 Department and Technical High School, Visayas State University, and Ilocos Sur Polytechnic State College–Sta Maria Campus, among others.

Led by practitioners and experts in the field

RappLearn’s trainings are facilitated by active practitioners navigating today’s digital challenges, including Chay Hofileña, Rappler’s head of training, a veteran investigative editor, and academic lecturer; Gemma Mendoza, an award-winning investigative journalist and Rappler’s lead researcher on platforms and disinformation who pioneers projects connecting data with citizen action; and Don Kevin Hapal, an expert in AI strategy and digital forensics from The Nerve, a digital forensics consultancy born from Rappler’s investigative work on disinformation.

INSIDE THE NEWSROOM. Veteran journalist and Rappler Managing Editor Miriam Grace Go engages with San Beda College Alabang Integrated K-12 Department and Technical High School students during the school’s newsroom immersion at the Rappler newsroom on March 23.

Beyond this core team, RappLearn’s programs also draw on the specialized expertise of other Rappler professionals across various units — from newsroom and data research to community engagement and creative production, ensuring every session is grounded in current, cross-functional newsroom practices.
