Stablecoins have been gaining significant traction around the world. In the latest XRP news, a new idea about stable tokens is sparking debate. And this one challenges the very rules they operate under.

The new idea is about a “no-freeze” stablecoin. But not everyone is convinced it can actually work. Ripple CTO David Schwartz recently raised serious concerns about this model. He questioned whether a stablecoin that refuses to freeze or seize funds can truly function within today’s legal and financial systems.

XRP News: A New Stablecoin Model Challenges Traditional Rules

Omid Malekan, a renowned author, highlighted a possible future scenario involving stablecoins. He noted that in the coming years, stablecoin issuers may try to stand out by refusing to intervene in user funds, including avoiding freezes or seizures.

Notably, this XRP news is about stablecoins. Malekan argued that such a “no-freeze” approach could push legal boundaries but ultimately serve as a powerful go-to-market strategy. This could help issuers capture significant market share.

Further, the author explained the reason behind his view. He believes that the stablecoin space is becoming crowded, making it difficult for projects to differentiate themselves. In that context, the post claimed that neutrality and non-intervention could emerge as one of the few unique selling points.

He believes that this is especially appealing to DeFi users and those who value censorship resistance. “As Tolstoy said, every narrow bank is the same, fractional-reserve banks are each fractional in their own way,” added Malekan.

At the same time, the XRP news post acknowledged common concerns around this model. These include hacks, smart contract bugs, and regulatory pressure, all of which may prompt users to expect fund recovery or intervention.

However, he dismissed these expectations as part of traditional finance, arguing that the core idea of crypto is to move away from such systems. It is also to offer an alternative that does not rely on centralized control.

Ripple CTO Questions How a “No-Freeze” Stablecoin Would Work

While Malekan underscores the significance of “no-freeze” stablecoins, Ripple CTO David Schwartz questioned how such a model could work. He explained that the core value of a stablecoin lies in its promise to allow users to redeem it for real money.

However, if a court steps in and cancels that legal obligation, and the issuer still refuses to freeze or act, it creates confusion about what happens next. In such a case, users trying to redeem their tokens might end up receiving nothing.

The Ripple CTO further questioned how this would play out over time. If some tokens can still be redeemed while others cannot due to legal issues, the system could start to break down. It may even resemble a fractional reserve model, where not everyone can cash out at once.

This XRP news raises another concern, stated the Ripple CTO. This is whether redemptions would turn into a “first come, first served” situation. This would potentially put late users at a disadvantage.

He added, “If you mean this stablecoin wouldn’t represent a legal obligation…how that’s supposed to be a selling point when the selling point of stablecoins is that they do in fact represent a legal obligation of the issuer.”

UK crypto holders brace for FCA’s expanded regulatory reach

The post UK crypto holders brace for FCA’s expanded regulatory reach appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. British crypto holders may soon face a very different landscape as the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) moves to expand its regulatory reach in the industry. A new consultation paper outlines how the watchdog intends to apply its rulebook to crypto firms, shaping everything from asset safeguarding to trading platform operation. According to the financial regulator, these proposals would translate into clearer protections for retail investors and stricter oversight of crypto firms. UK FCA plans Until now, UK crypto users mostly encountered the FCA through rules on promotions and anti-money laundering checks. The consultation paper goes much further. It proposes direct oversight of stablecoin issuers, custodians, and crypto-asset trading platforms (CATPs). For investors, that means the wallets, exchanges, and coins they rely on could soon be subject to the same governance and resilience standards as traditional financial institutions. The regulator has also clarified that firms need official authorization before serving customers. This condition should, in theory, reduce the risk of sudden platform failures or unclear accountability. David Geale, the FCA’s executive director of payments and digital finance, said the proposals are designed to strike a balance between innovation and protection. He explained: “We want to develop a sustainable and competitive crypto sector – balancing innovation, market integrity and trust.” Geale noted that while the rules will not eliminate investment risks, they will create consistent standards, helping consumers understand what to expect from registered firms. Why does this matter for crypto holders? The UK regulatory framework shift would provide safer custody of assets, better disclosure of risks, and clearer recourse if something goes wrong. However, the regulator was also frank in its submission, arguing that no rulebook can eliminate the volatility or inherent risks of holding digital assets. Instead, the focus is on ensuring that when consumers choose to invest, they do…
