PANews reported on October 7th that Vitalik Buterin, in response to the arson attack on a judge's home, wrote, "I have a more radical belief that more governance actions should be anonymous/secret voting (for example, I previously advocated for secret voting in the UN General Assembly) to protect decision-makers from external pressure and threats of violence." He stated, "A judge's duty is to rule based on the facts as interpreted by their conscience, not to answer to violent mobs. These ideas may sound crazy today—'Why are cryptocurrency enthusiasts pushing zero-knowledge proof technology into the realm of social issues?' But in the 2020s, when physical retaliation is readily available (including from hostile foreign powers), I believe such ideas will increasingly fall into the Overton Window."
