Despite the recent sharp decline in Bitcoin’s price, institutional investors’ interest in the cryptocurrency market remains strong.
John D’Agostino, head of institutional strategy at US-based cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase, told CNBC that institutional investors view current price levels as a significant buying opportunity.
According to D’Agostino, family offices and state-backed sovereign wealth funds, in particular, are viewing Bitcoin’s recent decline from a long-term investment perspective. He noted that institutional investors see the price pullback not as a risk, but as an opportunity to increase their positions at a lower cost, indicating that this group maintains its confidence in Bitcoin.
A Coinbase executive stated that these investors had previously found Bitcoin attractive at the $125,000 level, bought at the $100,000 level, and became more aggressive as the price dropped to the $65,000 region. This, he said, reflects institutional investors’ belief in Bitcoin’s long-term value potential.
D’Agostino also noted that institutional interest in spot Bitcoin ETFs continues. According to the data, the total amount of assets held in spot Bitcoin ETFs is approximately $100 billion. The fact that this size has been largely maintained despite recent market volatility indicates that institutional investors prefer to hold onto their positions rather than close them.
D’Agostino stated that although the Bitcoin price has fallen by approximately 50 percent from its peak levels, the decrease in individual investor demand has remained at only around 15 percent, emphasizing that this is a remarkable indicator of market resilience.
Experts note that institutional investors continuing to buy during downturns could provide significant support for the Bitcoin market, while they believe that ETF inflows and large investor movements could play a decisive role in determining price direction in the coming period.
