PETALING JAYA: The family of the late Zulfiqar Zamir Amirul Nizam wants the driver charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and causing the victim’s death to be investigated for murder.
Zulfiqar’s sister, Nur Amirah Afra, 25, said the case was initially probed under Section 44(1A) of the Road Transport Act for driving under the influence because her brother was still alive.
Following his death on May 26, she said the family hoped that the case would be investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder, instead.
“We only want justice for the deceased and will not stop until appropriate action is taken,” she told a press conference, adding that the family is still waiting for an update from the police.
Amirah said her late brother, the eldest of four siblings, worked as a service adviser for an automotive company and was also working part-time as a p-hailing rider in preparation for his wedding this December.
Separately, Klang Selatan police chief Lim Jit Huey said the initial investigation paper has been submitted and they are awaiting further instructions from prosecutors.
On May 18, part-time event planner Low Kean Peng pleaded not guilty at the Klang magistrates’ court to driving under the influence of alcohol and causing serious injury to Zulfiqar at Persiaran Kota here at 12.35am on May 13.
