Pi Network has announced a new mainnet upgrade that now carries a strict deadline. Node operators must upgrade to Protocol version 22.1 by April 27, 2026. Otherwise, they risk losing connection to the network.

The update was shared through official channels and quickly spread across the Pi community. As a result, many node operators are now preparing to act before the cutoff date. The upgrade is part of a larger roadmap that moves the network step by step toward newer versions.

Mandatory Upgrade Comes With Clear Deadline

The Pi Network follows a strict upgrade sequence. Node operators must upgrade in the following order:

19.1 → 19.6 → 19.9 → 20.2 → 21.2 → 22.1 → 23.0 → 24.1 → 25.1 → 26.0

At this stage, all nodes should be on version 21.2. It is not optional. All mainnet nodes must complete this step to stay active. If they fail to upgrade on time, their nodes may disconnect from the network. Pi Network follows a strict upgrade path. Each version must be installed in order. This means users cannot skip steps or jump ahead.

Right now, the network has successfully moved to version 21.2. The next required step is version 22.1. Importantly, the deadline is fixed. Node operators have until April 27 to complete the upgrade. After that, the network will move forward, leaving outdated nodes behind.

Upgrade Process Is Quick but Requires Planning

The good news is that this upgrade is fast. According to official details, downtime is expected to stay under 15 minutes. But operators still need to plan carefully. Experts suggest not upgrading all nodes at the same time. Instead, operators should shift traffic to other active nodes during the process. This helps avoid service disruption. Additionally, Pi Network has provided a fallback API endpoint. This allows traffic to continue smoothly while upgrades take place. As a result, users can maintain stability even during the transition.

Community Reacts With Urgency and Optimism

The announcement has sparked strong reactions across the community. Many users see this upgrade as a positive step. They believe each update makes the network stronger and more secure. Some community voices even compared upgrades to a system refresh.

In their view, regular updates improve performance and prepare the network for future growth. While the urgency of the deadline has created pressure. Node operators understand that missing this step could affect their participation. Therefore, many are acting quickly to stay compliant.

What Comes Next After v22.1?

This upgrade is only one step in a longer roadmap. After version 22.1 the network will continue moving forward. The next milestone is version 23.0. It is expected by May 11. Pi Network plans to roll out updates in sequence. Each phase builds on the previous one. This approach ensures stability while the system evolves.

For now, the focus remains on completing the current upgrade. Node operators who act early can avoid risks and stay connected. As the deadline approaches, attention will likely increase across the Pi ecosystem. In the coming weeks, the network’s progress will depend on how smoothly users complete this transition.
