TLDR

  • XRP Ledger version 3.2.0 officially renames the core server from rippled to xrpld.
  • The rebrand removes Ripple naming from the main software powering the XRP Ledger.
  • The upgrade adds fixes for AMMs, payments, MPTs, token escrows and order books.
  • XRPL now supports x402 payments using XRP and RLUSD for AI agents and services.
  • XRP Ledger led RWA networks with $1.9B in net inflows over the past 90 days.

The XRP Ledger has released version 3.2.0 of its core server software, introducing technical upgrades, developer tools, performance changes, and a formal rebrand that removes the legacy Ripple name from the network’s main software.

The update renames the core server from “rippled,” historically known as the Ripple daemon, to “xrpld,” or XRP Ledger daemon. The change is part of XLS-0095 and is intended to reflect the XRP Ledger’s status as an independent public blockchain rather than a system directly defined by Ripple, the commercial company.

The XRPL Foundation said the naming change addresses long-running confusion between XRP, the XRP Ledger, and Ripple. Supporters of the update say removing Ripple’s name from the codebase may also help developers, users, courts, and regulators better distinguish the open-source blockchain from the private company.

XRP Ledger Rebrands Core Server to xrpld

The v3.2.0 upgrade became available on June 15 and changes several areas connected to the software name. The rebrand affects configuration paths, server metadata, database directories, and version naming, meaning validators and node operators may need to update configuration files and scripts.

XRPL Foundation community head Vet said the update leaves behind the legacy “ripple daemon” name for the software that powers XRP and introduces the “xrpl daemon” name. The change is one of the most visible branding adjustments in the ledger’s recent technical history.

The move comes as XRP Ledger developers continue presenting the network as an independent ecosystem with its own validators, builders, applications, and infrastructure providers. The distinction remains important because regulatory debates have often blurred the separation between XRP, the public blockchain, and Ripple’s business operations.

The release also follows the XRP Ledger’s version 3.1.3 upgrade in May, continuing a sequence of core software updates focused on infrastructure, protocol improvements, and developer support.

Version 3.2.0 Adds Fixes and Developer Tools

Beyond the rebrand, version 3.2.0 includes the “fixCleanup3_2_0” amendment, which aggregates security and cleanup patches linked to Single Asset Vaults, the Lending Protocol, permissioned decentralized exchanges, Multi-Purpose Tokens, and permissioned domains.

The update adds new invariant checks intended to stop deleted accounts from leaving behind ledger artifacts that could later be accessed. Developers said the goal is to improve consistency and reliability across the XRP Ledger.

The release also introduces tools that allow applications to retrieve XRP Ledger protocol information and server definitions without operating a live server. This may help wallets, blockchain explorers, automated systems, and API providers integrate XRPL data more efficiently.

Infrastructure changes include configurable nuDB block sizes for database storage optimization. The update also adds optional TLS and mutual TLS support for gRPC servers, which can improve secure connectivity for enterprise infrastructure.

The default peering port has changed from 51235 to 2459, while the release includes fixes across automated market makers, payments, Multi-Purpose Tokens, token escrows, order books, and RPC handling. Developers said transaction invariants were temporarily disabled because of a performance regression issue, adding that the change does not create security concerns because the invariants are currently no-ops.

XRPL Expands AI Payments and RWA Activity

The XRP Ledger update comes as XRPL gains attention in AI-agent payments and real-world asset activity. XRPL is now supported in the x402 protocol through a contribution from t54, allowing agents to pay and receive value for API calls, AI model inference, and other services using XRP or Ripple USD, known as RLUSD.

Coinbase and Amazon AWS have also been linked to x402-based AI-agent payment infrastructure, where AI systems can transact for digital services. XRPL’s inclusion gives developers another payment route for agent-based applications using XRP and RLUSD from launch.

The network has also recorded strong real-world asset inflows. Recent data showed the XRP Ledger leading blockchain networks with about $1.9 billion in net RWA inflows over the past 90 days, followed by Ethereum with $1.6 billion and Stellar with $1.4 billion.

Validators and node operators are being encouraged to upgrade to version 3.2.0 to remain compatible with network changes.
