‘Blue wave’ sweeping through Johor, says Onn Hafiz

KLUANG: Johor Barisan Nasional chairman Onn Hafiz Ghazi says a “blue wave” is sweeping through the state, just three days before Johoreans go to the polls.

At an event in Kampung Perak, Simpang Renggam, Onn Hafiz said he felt confident about the election, based on the encouraging reception BN had received throughout the campaign period.

“Based on my observation, I see a ‘blue wave’ (sweeping through the state). God willing, we will win,” said Onn Hafiz, who is defending the Machap seat in the state election on Saturday.

BN is contesting all 56 seats. In the last Johor election, the coalition won 40 seats.

Pakatan Harapan, BN’s main competitor, is also contesting in all constituencies, while Perikatan Nasional is contesting 33, Parti Bersama Malaysia 15, Muda four, Parti Sosialis Malaysia, and Parti Orang Asli one each.

Onn Hafiz said he was aiming to retain his Machap seat with a larger majority. In 2022, he won the seat, a BN stronghold, with a 6,543-vote majority.

“We are targeting to win with a majority of 8,000 votes,” he said, and urged BN members not to be complacent.

The Johor Umno chief said he also wants at least 60% of BN supporters in Machap to vote by noon on Saturday.
