Trump gushes over Musk's No. 2 for donating millions while her boss gives nothing

On Wednesday night, President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to publicly praise SpaceX's President Gwynne Shotwell and her husband for their contribution to Trump Accounts, the tax-advantaged savings account funded with $1,000 from the Treasury for every American child born between 2025 and 2028.

"Thank you to the brilliant and highly respected Gwynne Shotwell, and her husband, Robert, for their extreme Generosity in helping children to attain the ever magnificent American Dream!" the president wrote.

Trump credited the pair for donating part of their SpaceX stock valued at $325 million and added, "Thousands of children have just been given a better life."

According to reports by Business Insider, Shotwell did not disclose the amount of her and her husband's donation when she announced it on X. She only revealed that each of their donations would impact "more than two million children," between the ages of 11 and 17, who live in lower-income areas. Their donations would also prioritize those who live near the couple's home in Central Texas, the announcement read.

Business Insider explained, "At Wednesday's closing price of $148 per share, the shares were worth about $296 million, reflecting a slight decline in SpaceX's share price since the gift was announced on Monday, when they were valued between $320 million and $325 million."

Shotwell, described as Elon Musk's second-in-command, joins billionaire Michael Dell and his wife, Susan Dell, in becoming the largest contributors to Trump Accounts.

Dell, founder, chairman, and CEO of Dell Technologies, and Susan donated $6.25 billion to Trump Accounts last year. According to Business Insider, Trump told reporters on Monday, "They are truly incredible people. Go out and buy a Dell computer."

Despite becoming the world's first trillionaire for a brief time in June, according to Forbes, Tesla's Elon Musk has not donated to Trump Accounts. Neither has the president, Business Insider concluded.
