UnboxingBLR Unveils BLR Hubba ’26, Startup & Tech Museum and Climate focused accelerator

Bengaluru-focused city platform UnboxingBLR (UBLR) announced three initiatives spanning culture, civic engagement and innovation on 1 December 2025. The line-up includes the third edition of BLR Hubba in January 2026, a public-private Startup and Tech Museum at the NGEF campus, and a scaled-up, climate-focused Namma Bengaluru Challenge (NBC) accelerator.

Namma Bengaluru Challenge: funding climate solutions

The NBC returns with the theme “Hot Problems, Cool Solutions,” in partnership with WTFund and Social Alpha, and support from the Government of Karnataka and the Greater Bengaluru Authority (GBA). The grant pool has been increased, with five winners receiving ₹25 lakh each, up from ₹10 lakh previously. Following 600+ registrations, the top 10 startups will pitch to a jury on January 24, 2026, addressing air pollution, construction waste, water, and sanitation.

“By partnering with the best in the ecosystem, we are not just funding ideas; we are building a pipeline of scalable, climate-resilient solutions,” said Malini Goyal, Co-Founder & CEO, UnboxingBLR.

BLR Hubba 2026: expanding the city’s cultural footprint

Scheduled for January 16 to 25, 2026, the third edition aims to position Bengaluru on the global cultural map and grow into one of India’s largest city festivals by 2030. The programme features 250+ performances across 12+ genres, including international acts from Japan and Malaysia and guitarist Marty Friedman, across 20+ venues, with 80% new programming.

UnboxingBLR is the anchor partner, with the Government of Karnataka as partner, JSW as Title Sponsor, and Prestige Group, Manipal Foundation, Biocon Group, and Go Native as sponsors. The free, public festival will activate city spaces, with Freedom Park as the central node.

“BLR Hubba 2026 is our promise to bring the city alive through its public spaces... This is about building the soul of our city together,” said V. Ravichandar, Chief Facilitator, BLR Hubba. The edition has tripled its budget through consolidated support.

Startup and Tech Museum: chronicling India’s tech capital

In partnership with the Government of Karnataka’s Department of Electronics, IT/BT, UBLR announced India’s first museum dedicated to innovation and technology. To be housed in an adaptively reused factory shed at the NGEF campus, the museum will sit alongside ‘Innoverse,’ a government-led deep-tech incubator, creating a hub for public engagement and advanced R&D.

“While Bengaluru is synonymous with technology, its story has remained largely untold... It will be an inspiration, a place that connects our rich past with a future of limitless possibilities,” said Prashanth Prakash, Chairman and Co-Founder, UnboxingBLR.

Data report and other city-led efforts

UBLR’s second “WeAreCity” data report covers India’s top eight cities Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune, Kolkata and Ahmedabad drawing on government, public, regulatory and private datasets, with digital collaborations including MakeMyTrip, BookMyShow, Rapido, Big Basket, MoveinSync and Tracxn.

The forthcoming cover theme, “Tale of Two Cities,” offers a granular view of two key urban centres.

Other ongoing initiatives include Church Street adoption (repair, maintenance and daily upkeep through 2026), a proposed Nandi Rail Museum at Nandi Halt Station with South Western Railway, a city busking programme targeted for early 2026, donation of 1,000 garbage kiosks with BSWML (pilot of 100 kiosks in 2025–26), and “Hasiru Junction,” creating micro green patches at four traffic junctions with GBA. UBLR is also building a platform for Bengaluru’s community groups, slated for early 2026.

Founded in 2023, UnboxingBLR describes itself as a collaborative platform that convenes people, communities and institutions to co-create Bengaluru’s story through initiatives such as BLR Hubba, the Namma Bengaluru Challenge, the annual We Are City Data Report, and the Code to Culture podcast.
