BlackRock Names Bitcoin ETF a Top Investment Theme for 2025

  • BlackRock grouped Bitcoin with T-bills and big U.S. tech in its 2025 outlook.
  • IBIT pulled over $25B in inflows in 2025 despite Bitcoin falling about 30%.
  • Total IBIT inflows have reached $62.5B since launch in January 2024.

BlackRock, the world’s largest asset manager with nearly $13 trillion under management, has placed Bitcoin alongside U.S. Treasury bills and other U.S. tech stocks as one of its biggest investment themes for 2025.

In its year-end outlook titled “2025 Investing Wrapped,” BlackRock grouped Bitcoin with two long-standing pillars of traditional finance: short-term government debt and large-cap American equities.

At the center of this theme is IBIT, BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF. IBIT was listed next to SGOV, an ETF tracking short-term U.S. Treasury bills, and TOPT, an ETF focused on America’s largest tech companies.

BlackRock has continued to expand its crypto offerings beyond Bitcoin. Its Ethereum ETF, ETHA, has attracted more than $9 billion in inflows this year

Strong Inflows Despite Bitcoin’s Pullback

What stands out most is investor demand. Despite Bitcoin experiencing a price decline in 2025, IBIT has attracted more than $25 billion in net inflows this year alone. Bitcoin is down roughly 30% from its October peak, yet investors have continued to allocate capital to IBIT.

According to market data, IBIT now ranks sixth among all ETFs by inflows in 2025. Reacting to the same, ETF expert Nate Geraci said, “Despite IBIT being down this year. iShares clearly not panicking over shorter-term BTC price moves.”

Eric Balchunas, an ETF analyst, said BlackRock’s Gold ETF, IAU, is up 64%, its biggest gain ever, and has attracted over $10 billion in inflows this year.

Even so, BlackRock has named its Bitcoin ETF, IBIT, as one of its top investment themes for 2025. This shows the firm’s continued confidence in Bitcoin, despite strong performance from traditional safe assets like gold.

BlackRock Now Holds a Major Share of Bitcoin ETF

Since launching in January 2024, total net inflows into IBIT have reached about $62.5 billion, far ahead of rival spot Bitcoin ETFs. As of December 19, 2025, the fund held over 775,000 BTC, giving BlackRock custody of a significant portion of Bitcoin held by exchange-traded products worldwide.

By placing Bitcoin next to Treasury bills and mega-cap tech stocks, BlackRock is framing it not as a fringe asset, but as part of a balanced investment strategy. However, BlackRock has so far avoided launching ETFs tied to altcoins such as Solana or XRP.
