Bitwise Asset Management is acquiring institutional staking provider Chorus One and expanding its crypto yield services. This acquisition adds a major staking operation to its platform amid rising demand for onchain yield products among retail and institutional investors. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed; Bloomberg reported on Wednesday, citing statements from both companies.

Bitwise-Chorus One Acquisition Strengthens ETH Ecosystem

This strategic move aims to meet ETH staking demand by integrating Bitwise’s staking infrastructure with Chorus One’s $2.2 billion portfolio. It is becoming a low-risk yield source for institutional investors, especially as Ethereum’s Proof-of-Stake mechanism offers 3-5% APY annually.

Ethereum Staking Queue Reaches 4 Million ETH

Ethereum staking demand is rising rapidly; the validator queue has reached over 4 million ETH, causing a waiting period of more than 70 days. Approximately 37 million ETH, more than 30% of total supply, is staked and secures the network with nearly 1 million active validators. This enhances network security while limiting liquidity.

Institutional Giants Entering ETH Staking

Morgan Stanley filed for a spot Ether ETF that will stake a portion of its holdings to provide passive yield. Grayscale is also distributing the first payment from onchain staking from its Ethereum Trust ETF. These developments are accelerating the transition to ETH in traditional finance.
