HOUSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Opportune LLP, a leading global business advisory firm with preeminence in energy, announced today that it has acquired PEP Consulting & Advocacy, the Consulting & Advocacy Practice of Pickering Energy Partners LP (PEP), and that Dan Romito will join Opportune to advise clients and lead the firm’s growing sustainability and energy expansion practices.

PEP Consulting & Advocacy built a reputation for assisting private companies, public issuers, and asset managers in addressing a critical challenge in today’s markets: ensuring the energy narrative reflects economic reality and balancing practical, value-accreting sustainability strategies with capital market expectations. At Opportune, the team will extend that same thoughtful, investor-focused approach by helping clients turn sustainability goals into actionable strategies, investor engagement, governance, and implementation support that withstands scrutiny from boards, lenders, regulators, and shareholders.

Over the last decade, Romito has authored over sixty-five articles and presentations on topics like energy policy, power markets, pragmatic sustainability, investor behaviour, passive ownership, and shareholder activism, published in prominent outlets such as Harvard Business Review, the Harvard Law School Forum on Corporate Governance, CNBC, Bloomberg, Hart Energy, and Global Investor Magazine.

“Dan is a nationally recognized thought leader, and we are quite pleased to welcome him and his team to our growing platform,” said David Baggett, Chairman and Managing Partner of Opportune.

Dan Romito commented, “The market is entering an unprecedented inflection point where energy, power, carbon management, and technology are increasingly converging. Boards and investors increasingly want a sharper, more quantitative depiction of risk, ROI, timing, and value creation. Opportune is the perfect landing spot for the team—a firm with deep energy credibility and the advisory horsepower to convert complex issues into clear value-add solutions and results.

“I’m personally grateful to Dan Pickering and Walker Moody for an outstanding experience and the opportunity to build PEP Consulting into a platform defined by intellectual honesty, client impact, and disciplined execution. Dan is the consummate teacher, and I’m fortunate to have sat beside him for the past half-decade. I’m excited to carry those teachings and experience forward at Opportune—helping clients compete and win in a market that increasingly demands both performance and resilience.”

With the addition of Dan Romito and PEP Consulting & Advocacy, Opportune strengthens its ability to help clients navigate the rapidly evolving intersection of energy, sustainability, capital markets, and technology. The expanded platform underscores the firm’s commitment to delivering rigorous, practical advisory solutions that align strategic objectives with investor expectations and long-term value creation across the energy value chain.

Opportune LLP is a leading global business advisory firm focused on adding value to clients across multiple industries with preeminence in energy. Opportune’s practice areas include business transformation, complex financial reporting, disputes and litigations, investment banking, outsourcing, process and technology, reserve engineering and geosciences, restructuring, tax, transactional advisory services, and valuation. The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For

The post The Channel Factories We’ve Been Waiting For appeared on BitcoinEthereumNews.com. Visions of future technology are often prescient about the broad strokes while flubbing the details. The tablets in “2001: A Space Odyssey” do indeed look like iPads, but you never see the astronauts paying for subscriptions or wasting hours on Candy Crush.  Channel factories are one vision that arose early in the history of the Lightning Network to address some challenges that Lightning has faced from the beginning. Despite having grown to become Bitcoin’s most successful layer-2 scaling solution, with instant and low-fee payments, Lightning’s scale is limited by its reliance on payment channels. Although Lightning shifts most transactions off-chain, each payment channel still requires an on-chain transaction to open and (usually) another to close. As adoption grows, pressure on the blockchain grows with it. The need for a more scalable approach to managing channels is clear. Channel factories were supposed to meet this need, but where are they? In 2025, subnetworks are emerging that revive the impetus of channel factories with some new details that vastly increase their potential. They are natively interoperable with Lightning and achieve greater scale by allowing a group of participants to open a shared multisig UTXO and create multiple bilateral channels, which reduces the number of on-chain transactions and improves capital efficiency. Achieving greater scale by reducing complexity, Ark and Spark perform the same function as traditional channel factories with new designs and additional capabilities based on shared UTXOs.  Channel Factories 101 Channel factories have been around since the inception of Lightning. A factory is a multiparty contract where multiple users (not just two, as in a Dryja-Poon channel) cooperatively lock funds in a single multisig UTXO. They can open, close and update channels off-chain without updating the blockchain for each operation. Only when participants leave or the factory dissolves is an on-chain transaction…
