Crypto analyst The DeFi Investor shared a watchlist of altcoins and key developments that investors should closely follow as the new week begins.

According to the analyst, both project-based updates and macroeconomic developments could cause volatility in the cryptocurrency market in the coming days.

According to the shared list, a significant development is on the agenda for the decentralized finance (DeFi) protocol Aave. The governance proposal, which includes the launch of Aave V4 on the Ethereum network, has been officially published.

On the infrastructure projects side, Aster Chain’s mainnet launch is expected to take place this month. At the same time, Thorchain is reportedly preparing to add native swap support for Zcash, a development that could be a significant step in increasing liquidity for the ZEC and RUNE ecosystems.

Token launches and network updates are also on investors’ radar. The Katana project’s token generation event (TGE) will take place on March 18th. In the MultiversX ecosystem, the testnet version of the SuperNova update, described as the biggest upgrade since the network’s mainnet launch, will begin on March 16th.

Another notable development in the token economy will take place with LayerZero (ZRO). Approximately $52 million worth of ZRO tokens will be unlocked on March 20th. This amount is said to represent about 5.64% of the circulating supply.

NVIDIA GTC conference, one of the world’s largest artificial intelligence events, will begin on March 16th.

A live stream event titled “Mantle State of Mind” will be held on March 17th within the Mantle ecosystem. This broadcast is expected to share recent milestones in the project and its roadmap for the future. Meanwhile, the derivatives trading platform Aevo announced it will be making announcements regarding new product launches on March 16th.

Now, Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick is floating a plan to skim half the patent earnings from inventions developed at universities with federal funding. It’s being sold as a way to shore up programs like Social Security. In reality, it’s a raid on American innovation that would deliver pennies to the Treasury while kneecapping the very engine of our economic and medical progress. Yes, taxpayer dollars support early-stage research. But the real payoff comes later—in the jobs created, cures discovered, and industries launched when universities and private industry turn those discoveries into real products. By comparison, the sums at stake in patent licensing are trivial. Universities collectively earn only about $3.6 billion annually in patent income—less than the federal government spends on Social Security in a single day. Even confiscating half would barely register against a $6 trillion federal budget. And yet the damage from such a policy would be anything but trivial. The true return on taxpayer investment isn’t in licensing checks sent to Washington, but in the downstream economic activity that federally supported research unleashes. Thanks to the bipartisan Bayh-Dole Act of 1980, universities and private industry have powerful incentives to translate early-stage discoveries into real-world products. Before Bayh-Dole, the government hoarded patents from federally funded research, and fewer than 5% were ever licensed. Once universities could own and license their own inventions, innovation exploded. The result has been one of the best returns on investment in government history. Since 1996, university research has added nearly $2 trillion to U.S. industrial output, supported 6.5 million jobs, and launched more than 19,000 startups. Those companies pay…
