PETALING JAYA: Johor election candidate Alwiyah Talib, who crossed from Umno to Bersatu and back to Umno, says what party she represents is less important than representing the people.
She said she was not concerned with where her “political home” was, as much as continuing to serve the people of Endau, where she seeks a third term as the state assembly member for Endau, this time as the Barisan Nasional candidate.
In 2018, when she was an Umno member, she had won the seat on a BN ticket, but later joined Bersatu and won re-election in 2022 on a Perikatan Nasional ticket. She returned to Umno earlier this month.
Alwiyah said she brings her experience, commitment, and dedication to developing and strengthening the local economy and caring for the public.
“With the unwavering support of all of Endau’s people, we will build a more advanced, prosperous and harmonious Endau for everyone,” Bernama reported her as saying today.
In the 2022 Johor polls, Alwiyah won with a majority of 3,041 votes in a five-cornered contest.
Endau, which has 28,767 registered voters, is now seeing a four-cornered contest between Alwiyah, Saiful Nizam Samat (PH), Hasnul Hakimi Hussien (PN) and Jati Awang (Asli).
Polling will take place on July 11, with early voting set for July 7.
