Today’s Google Doodle is a spooky take on one of the most famous arcade games: Pac-Man. This is not the first time Google has released a version of Pac-Man as its playable Doodle. In 2010, Google released a playable Pac-Man Doodle to celebrate the game’s 30th anniversary. Five years later, Google Maps got its own Pac-Man where players could play the game on maps of real places. Now, Google is celebrating both Halloween and Pac-Man’s 45th anniversary with a brand new Halloween-themed Doodle comprised of eight separate haunted house maps. You control Pac-Man with the arrow keys on your keyboard or via touch on a phone or iPad. Google often celebrates the holidays with fun Doodles like this, including a competitive ghost game that I enjoyed a couple years back, or the Magic Cat Academy that released all the way back in 2020, five years ago today. Sometimes these Doodles have pretty detailed explanations and backstories, but today’s only gets this short blurb from Google: In celebration of Halloween, PAC-MAN is going trick-or-treating! Your mission is to guide him through eight levels, four of which are unique haunted house mazes. Pay close attention inside each house, as its design directly reflects the personality of the iconic ghost haunting it. Grab power pellets to turn the tables and chase them yourself! 👻 If you enjoy classic arcade games like Pac-Man give this one a shot, and have a very happy Halloween! Other fun Doodles I’ve enjoyed in the past include this really cool puzzle game about the lunar cycle, and a fun popcorn-themed battle royale.
