XRP is now available through Krypto, powered by Deka within Germany’s Sparkasse app. Customers of participating banks can open a crypto account and buy or sell supported assets. DekaBank lists XRP alongside Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, and Polygon in its official product information.
The integration adds an XRP distribution channel inside a banking app customers already use. They do not need to begin with an entirely unfamiliar trading application, although opening an account and accepting the crypto service’s terms remain necessary. This can reduce the initial friction involved in obtaining digital-asset exposure.
Availability as an investment, however, does not establish that the banks use XRP to settle payments. The demand effect depends on customers actually trading, their net purchases, and continued usage. The number of banks or potential customers cannot be treated as the number of XRP buyers.
What Participating Sparkassen Offer
DekaBank’s partner list checked on October 23 names five institutions: Frankfurter Sparkasse, Sparkasse Rottal-Inn, Niederrheinische Sparkasse RheinLippe, Taunus Sparkasse, and Sparkasse Karlsruhe. The list identifies banks named by the provider, not evidence that the entire Sparkassen network has activated the service. Source: DekaBank’s participating-bank list.
Customers access the service through the Sparkasse app, while DekaBank provides the crypto product and custody. That distinction determines who handles the crypto account, transaction execution, and safekeeping obligations. A shared app interface does not give every service the same legal or operational structure.

Buying XRP Is Different from Using XRP for Payments
XRP is the native asset of the XRP Ledger. Ripple is a company developing products and services, while the XRP Ledger is the network on which the asset operates. These names are related but are not interchangeable. Their distinctions are explained in the XRP Ledger’s introductory documentation.
An investment offering in a banking app demonstrates that customers have a route to buy and sell XRP. Evidence of payment adoption requires more information: the payment service involved, its users, the settlement process, and whether XRP actually forms part of the flow of funds.
An investment-distribution announcement cannot establish that XRP is being used as a bridge asset for international transfers. A claim that all payments across the Sparkassen network will use XRP would require evidence entirely different from an app’s supported-asset list.
Customers Receive Custody Services, Not Private-Key Control
DekaBank’s customer document describes an omnibus wallet, with customers’ ownership recorded individually in the bank’s systems. DekaBank manages the private keys, so users do not receive the direct control associated with a self-managed wallet. The service is offered to customers in Germany. Source: DekaBank customer information, September 2026 version.
Outbound transfers also have restrictions. The document describes external deliveries to wallets managed by permitted crypto-asset service providers, subject to identity and destination-address checks. Customers should not assume unrestricted transfers to any personal address.
Convenient custody creates dependence on the provider’s systems and procedures. Buyers need to distinguish safekeeping risk, service availability, and market-price risk. Crypto held through a banking app does not become a deposit with a guaranteed value. DekaBank explicitly states that crypto-assets are outside statutory deposit insurance in its product risk disclosures.
The €0.99 Fee Is Not the Entire Trading Cost
DekaBank’s September 2026 price sheet specifies a €0.99 charge for each purchase or sale. Transactions use a request-for-quote process: customers receive a time-limited quote based on a reference price and DekaBank’s spread. Source: DekaBank’s official price sheet.
A fixed charge has a larger proportional effect on small orders. The calculations below measure only that charge relative to the order amount, excluding spread and tax.
Illustrative order amount | Fixed charge per order | Fixed charge as a share of the amount |
€25 | €0.99 | 3.96% |
€100 | €0.99 | 0.99% |
€1,000 | €0.99 | 0.099% |
The formula is fixed charge ÷ order amount × 100%. Buying and subsequently selling incur separate charges, producing €1.98 in fixed costs before the spread and price changes.

This structure helps explain why access need not immediately translate into regular trading. Customers still have to consider the total cost, order size, and purpose of holding the asset.
What DekaBank’s Transaction Report Shows
DekaBank publishes daily transaction reports through its MiCAR page. The file for trading on October 21, 2026, as inspected, contains 28 records across all instruments, including five carrying XRP’s instrument identifier, EU000A2YZK83. Adding the transaction-value column, Kurswert, for those five rows produces €150.54. Source: DekaBank’s October 21, 2026 transaction file.
The arithmetic is €100.15 + €50.07 + €0.10 + €0.10 + €0.12 = €150.54. This is a gross sum of the file’s records, not net buying or fresh capital inflow.
Its scope must remain clear. Five records do not mean five unique customers. The file cannot identify all Sparkasse-app customer activity, all German crypto trading, or global XRP demand. One reporting day is insufficient to declare the launch a success or failure.
The report provides a concrete analytical starting point: examine observable transactions and keep conclusions within their scope. Distribution potential and realized demand remain different measurements.
Four Types of Evidence Needed to Assess Adoption
Evaluation should follow the stages of actual usage. Each stage needs its own evidence before it can be connected to token demand.
A. Banks That Have Activated the Service
Institutions expressing interest are different from institutions already processing transactions. Activation also does not show how many customers meet the requirements or can see the feature.
The useful initial measures are active banks and customers genuinely eligible to use the product. Multiplying the network’s entire customer base by an assumed purchase amount creates an unsupported projection when participation rates are unknown.
B. Accounts That Are Funded and Used Repeatedly
Account openings can indicate initial interest, but unfunded accounts do not create purchase demand. Repeat usage helps distinguish an initial experiment from a lasting investment habit.
Relevant measures include transacting accounts, order values, and retention. Providers can report those aggregates without disclosing customers’ identities.
C. Net Purchases and Changes in Holdings
Gross volume combines activity in both directions. High turnover can occur when purchases and sales largely offset one another.
Holdings should also be measured in XRP units rather than only euros. Custody values can rise because prices increase without any additional tokens. Inventory and execution data are needed to assess the effect on the provider’s purchasing requirements.
D. Separately Verified Payment Usage
Using XRP for payment settlement must be demonstrated through relevant products and transactions. Investment-purchase statistics cannot substitute for that evidence.
Analysis should examine payment values, transaction corridors, repeat usage, and XRP’s actual role. A network’s technical capability does not prove that a particular bank is already using it.
What Indonesian Investors Can Take from the Development
The service illustrates broader digital-asset distribution through traditional financial institutions. A product offered to customers in Germany is not automatically available to Indonesian users, and its legal arrangements cannot simply be transferred to another jurisdiction.
Investors can monitor the XRP/USDT market on MEXC to assess conditions on that trading pair. Volume at one venue cannot identify DekaBank customer purchases or establish that the banking service caused a price movement.
The evidence currently supports a clear conclusion: participating banks have added an investment-access channel for XRP. Assessing adoption at scale requires a series of usage, net-purchase, and holdings data after launch. Claims of payment adoption require separate operational evidence.
