The AI supply chain filled all six layers on October 28, and only one of the eight items carried a third-party price. Seoul-based FuriosaAI closed a $620 million Series D at a $2.9 billion post-money valuation, while on the same day Microsoft (Ticker: MSFT) and Alphabet (Ticker: GOOGL) together put $90.77 billion into their own capital spending for the quarter. Read side by side, those two figures describe the day: the money barely passed through a deal market and turned straight into data center floor.

Energy Department offers up to $5 billion in loans for Constellation nuclear uprates
Funding | Under review | TechCrunch (Energy Department notice) 2026/10/28
Constellation (Ticker: CEG) plans to uprate 11 reactors at eight plants for 1.1 gigawatts, with Google, Amazon (Ticker: AMZN) and Meta (Ticker: META) buying the output, but the loan commitment is not yet final.
Today's Takeaway
Deal value counted this issue is $620 million, with $95.77 billion excluded. About 95% of the excluded side is Microsoft's and Alphabet's own capital spending, and the remaining $5 billion is an Energy Department loan commitment that is not final, so none of the three is priced in a market. The only arm's-length deal was FuriosaAI's $620 million in equity, and its capacity does not go from 20,000 to more than 40,000 units until 2027. Microsoft's roughly $170 billion fiscal 2027 capex outlook is full-year guidance rather than a deal, and Constellation's previously committed $7 billion-plus of uprates is not from this period, so neither sits on either side.
How to use this next time: when a very large spending figure appears, ask first whether it has a counterparty. Own capital spending has no seller negotiating against it, and a government loan commitment is not set by a market, so neither tells you anything about supply and demand however large it is. A deal with a price is the evidence of what the market will actually pay, and today that number was $620 million. Keeping the two apart stops you from reading the size of the spending as the strength of the demand.
